Few situations are a certainty inside the video game world, but because of the huge crowds that gathered in London for that launch of World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade, that it was a fairly safe bet that the overall game would arrive presents itself last week's UK all-formats game chart.
Not only did Blizzard's expansion pack manage a number 1 debut, almost all became the UK's second-fastest-selling PC game of most time behind Championship Manager 04. Chart-Track reports that this title included 30 percent of PC games sold a week ago. The discharge of The Burning Crusade in addition has helped an original World of Warcraft back into the highest 40--the action reentered at number 28.
Despite the arrival of Blizzard's massively multiplayer behemoth, the rest from the chart remained largely unchanged. The chart-topping entry has merely knocked yesterday's top four games down the place each, with Lost Planet: Extreme Condition at # 2 followed by WarioWare: Smooth Moves, FIFA 07, and Pro Evolution Soccer 6.
The most impressive rise with the week goes toward Sega's World Snooker Championship 2007, which jumped from 17 to thanks no doubt to your Masters tournament coming to your close in London now. The rest in the top 10 was rounded out by chart stalwarts, with Need for Speed Carbon at seven, Call of Duty 3 at eight, The Sims 2: Pets at nine, and Canis Canem Edit (Bully inside US) at 10.
The Burning Crusade's dominance will also be felt further around the chart, with precious few new entries making their way to the Top 40. The budget PC game market has experienced a revival, with titles for example Galaxy of Games Red, Sega Rally, and Sonic Mega Collection Plus holding positions from 20-40. The Burning Crusade's reign doesn't face any major challenges in the future, with the releases of Star Fox Command around the Nintendo DS and Rocky Balboa for the PlayStation Portable likely to create an appearance from the charts.
